Vihara Dharma Shanti: Bintan's 16.8m Sleeping Buddha

Vihara Dharma Shanti stands in Tanjung Uban, a small town on the northern tip of Bintan Island.
Travelers and locals usually call it the Sleeping Buddha temple, or Patung Budha Tidur in Indonesian.
Its main feature is a reclining Buddha statue measuring 16.8 meters long and 4 meters high, completed in 2019. The temple is a modern landmark rather than a historical one, and the grounds are fairly compact.
Travelers who have already visited many temples elsewhere sometimes describe it as a quick, average stop rather than a highlight.
A small garden area includes a pond with a meditating Buddha statue at its center, where visitors sometimes toss in coins for good luck. The temple remains active for prayer, and visitors of any faith are welcome to walk through the grounds.
Much of it gets open sun with little shade, so midday visits can feel warm. Modest dress is expected inside the temple building, and shoes need to come off before entering.
The temple is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and mornings tend to be more comfortable before the heat builds up.
Vihara Dharma Shanti is about 15 minutes from Tanjung Uban port, an easy stop for anyone arriving by speed from Batam, and roughly 20 minutes from Sand Dunes & Blue Lake Bintan.
From Bintan Resorts Hotel or Lagoi, the drive is closer to 40 minutes, so most visitors pair it with other stops nearby rather than visiting on its own.
Travelers who want to fit Vihara Dharma Shanti into a wider northern Bintan itinerary can request a custom trip built around their own stops and schedule.
